Liberia's History
The Liberian leaders of LEM came to maturity during the ministries of Christian Church missionaries like Wayne Meece, Ron Ayers, Ken Vogel, and Robert Sheffler. LEM leaders James Morgan and Danny Buegar and others attended and/or worked at Liberia Christian High Schoool and Liberia Christian College.
James Morgan and Danny Buegar came to the Milligan College, Tennessee in the early 80's to further their education that they might return to Liberia and minister to their people. It was in Tennessee that they caught a vision for establishing a network of Restoration Movement Christian Churches in Liberia.
The people of Liberia and our plans for the Liberian church have been severely buffeted by periods of war and distress. Some of our leaders have died as the fifteen year conflict decimated the cities and towns of Liberia. All Liberians have faced great danger. Most of our Liberian brothers and sisters had to endure years of chaos and danger. Some were outside the country and unable to return. Danny Buegar and at times James Morgan ministered to refugees in neighboring Ivory Coast. Christian leaders among our churches were injured or lost their lives in the conflict. Every family in Liberia has suffered.
Thankfully, peace has returned to Liberia and for that we praise God. The churches are once more moving forward, trying to heal the scars of the past. The Buchanan Christian Church, served by Pastor Freeman Wesseh, is our largest congregation. The Monrovia Christian Church, where the Buegars live, is the main congregation in the capital city. Numerous other congregations have been formed as the work has expanded.
The work in Liberia today is led by a group of godly Liberian men and women. LEM is a ministry designed to support our Liberian brothers and sisters with prayer, financial support, and ministry resources. We hope you too might get involved in this ministry.
